Peanut, Peanut Butter!

Well after two attempts at making our own peanut butter we have given up and have decide to go back to the store brand. The first problem is that our grinder is not so great and now is just died so instead of getting the oil out of the peanuts we have to add oil, which means sometimes we are stuck adding oils we buy on sale instead of the good ones I prefer. We also have to add sugar which again makes it of less quality than the store bought all natural peanut butter. The store bought stuff has no sugar. The first batch the kids loved, because we add a lot of sugar and extra oil. This batch we tried on S who came home with a full sandwich and when I asked what he did not like about it, he said, " the peanut butter is yucky!" So we win some and we lose some. The other thing is that it does not save us the money we first thought. So until we get a better grinder, its back to the store for the peanut butter.

Do you have a food processor? I've heard that they work pretty well for making nut butters without having to add much, if anything to them.

I was just about to say the same thing. A quisanart (or however you spell it) works really well. When you do it just let it go for a long while. It will take some time for it to start to get "creamy" but it will. Actually it may not take that long, I can't tell you how many times I have accidently made some nut butter or another because I hit high and "go" and then let it go a bit too long when all I wanted was to get a nice powder. LOL Also, the quality of the nuts you use will effect the "butter." Try to make sure they are fresher, I would think there you would be able to get some amazing almonds etc for this endevor. I have a good feeling though you don't use "planters" for your nuts. LOL Anyways, I have been remise I need to send you some of my recipes, I will I promise, things have just been crazy here lately.

Oh I forgot to say that sometimes "toasting" the nuts, just slightly so they are warm when you throw them together will not only give you some yummy pizzaz to the butter but also will help to extract the oil to make it creamy.

Okay-Chef Boyrdee here. Some things we make at home because it is cheaper or even I can make better (Mac-n-Cheese, rosated chicken, cookie dough, etc.) some things are not worth the time and/or effort to make and it is easier to buy. Buy the peanut butter-it is a staple and surely will not go to waste.
